Offer in Compromise / Tax Relief

Getting Tax Relief with an Offer in Compromise

An offer in compromise (OIC) is an agreement between you and the Internal Revenue Service in which the IRS agrees to accept less than the full amount of the tax tax bill in settlement of the entire debt. In some cases, taxpayers may save hundreds of thousands of dollars using this method of relief. In other cases, it is not the best way to resolve the case.

Our tax lawyers will review your situation and tell you if you qualify for an offer in compromise. If you do not qualify, we will advise you on the best way to eliminate your tax debt, which may include:

  • Penalty abatement to remove interest or penalties
  • An installment agreement with monthly payments
  • Currently not Collectible Status
  • The IRS Fresh Start Program
  • Innocent spouse relief

Cal Bomar is a former IRS tax attorney who has handled tax problems from both sides of the table, which puts him in an excellent position to effectively review your tax situation and negotiate your case.

Before any money is offered, Mr. Bomar will review the results of your tax records or audit to determine if you do, in fact, owe the IRS money. If you did not have an attorney handling your audit, errors may have been made that were not in your favor. If we can dispute the amount the IRS says is owed, this is the first step toward reducing or eliminating your tax bill.

Next, Mr. Bomar will review your case to see if you meet the requirements of the offer in compromise program. A tax debt can be legally compromised if there is some doubt that the assessed tax is correct and / or doubt that you could ever pay the tax in full. Even if no doubt exists as to these two points, you may still qualify if we can demonstrate that collection of the tax would create economic hardship or would be unfair and inequitable.
